Ms. Nancy Gathungu takes Office as Auditor-General
Ms. Nancy Gathungu officially took over as the Auditor-General at the Office following a symbolic handing over ceremony.
She replaces Mr. Edward Ouko whose tenure ended in August 2019. She took Oath of Office on 17th July 2020.
The Auditor-General pledged to build on her predecessor’s legacy and ensure that the Office continues gearing audit services towards meeting the needs of the people, expectations of stakeholders and responding appropriately to the constantly changing environment and emerging risks.
Ms. Gathungu said her tenure will be anchored on four pillars; Independence, Credibility, Relevance and Accountability.
“These four pillars will be the guiding principles in our work to enable us attain, where we are lacking, maintain where present and sustain professionalism and the reputation of the Office of the Auditor-General, as we serve the Kenyan people”, Ms Gathungu said.
She also promised to clear the audit backlog occasioned by the gap between the retirement of her predecessor and her appointment. Ms Gathungu will serve for a non-renewable term of 8 years, as per the Kenyan Constitution.
